Room Upgrade Reports
I was visiting on a 5 night comp’d stay. Diamond Status.
Gave the Diamond clerk 100 bill and asked if any upgrades were available… I was hoping for a suite but just got a slight upgrade Resort vista room. The view from the bathtub of Paris Tower was pretty great but I’d never tip 100 for this minor upgrade ever again. Wasn’t worth it.
Didn’t target anyone specific, just went to the next available clerk. Checked in around on Wednesday February 19th, 2020 at 7:30PM. We tipped $60 at check-in, and asked if there were any complimentary upgrades. She said she didn’t have anything available, and tried giving us our money back. We let her keep it though, whatever it’s Vegas. She did give us a $50 certificate for room service or something though which we didn’t end up using. Our view did end up being great though with a view of the fountains, so she may have upgraded our view, but we could have also had that room anyways so really not sure. She was really friendly though and felt bad she couldn’t do anything.
Checked in Sunday 2/9/20 Originally booked the Ultra Hip Room for a (2) night stay. On arrival the line was a bit long, but I still opted to wait in line instead of doing the kiosk auto checkin, so I could try the “$20 Trick” and see if it would work since it was my first time trying such thing. Lucky me, a nice young lady on the VIP Registration side raised her hand and said she could help me. I Started by greeting her politely with small talk and I did as advised, tucked the $20 bill in between my ID and CC. Handed it to her when she asked for it and before I could even fully finish asking that I was wondering if there were any “complimentary upgrades available” she just said “ooh” smiled, and nodded saying Yes and that she would see what she could do. She then said yup, and that she would be upgrading me to a Suite. I said thank you and then she asked me if I also needed late checkout, to which I said sure why not. She asked if 1:00pm was fine and I said yes. I was upgraded to an Ultra Resort Vista Room, with a King Bed. Lots of big windows with amazing views of the Strip on the 17th floor. Spacious room with a really nice big tub separate from the shower which included a view of the strip as well. Definitely worth doing the $20 trick and from now on it’s a must do every time!!!! Upgraded to a suite and late checkout + waived the Resort fees which most of you know are $40+ per night. To anyone seeing this, just remember to be polite and smile. Trick should work! Happy Travels 🙂 Thank you

I’m not suave enough to “sandwich” the cash, so I didn’t. I held $40 in my hand, placed it on the counter and said “Hi! This is a tip for your service today!” The clerk then chatted with us for a bit and I asked “do you have any complementary upgrades?” She said “just to be clear, this is for my service?” Before she booked us or grabbed the cash. I said yes. She upgraded us from a lower level room with no view to a vista with a beautiful view of the fountains! My fav spot was from the view from the tub. My best advice, don’t expect anything. I was willing to give her that tip, regardless of what she did. It’s Vegas… sometimes your risk pays off, sometimes it doesn’t. If she didn’t upgrade us, I wouldn’t have wanted my cash back… I think attitude plays a huge part in if these are successful or not.
Showed up at the hotel desk around 7pm to check-in for our New Years trip to Vegas. I was a little skeptical because it was a holiday visit and the hotel was probably busy, but decided to go for it. Didn’t really target a specific clerk, just the first one that was available. Placed a $20 bill sandwiched between my ID and CC and gave it to the clerk. The clerk asked “Is this for me?” to which I replied “Yes, I was wondering if there were any complimentary room upgrades available?” The clerk then nodded and placed the $20 in clear view on the desk. The clerk said “Just so we’re clear, this is for my excellent customer service.” I said “Of course.” The clerk started typing and asked me if a room with a fountain view would be ok (an upgrade from my original room) and I said “Yes, that would be wonderful.” And that was it. The clerk smiled and thanked me for the tip and I thanked the clerk for the excellent customer service. Worth it. Planet Hollywood is awesome!
Targeted clerk all the way to the side. Went on a Tuesday afternoon at around 4:30pm.
When I got there they asked me if I would like to check in via kiosk and I said I would wait to talk to a live person. I didn’t target any particular employee… just waited for the next available. I handed her my card and license with the $20 in between. Before I could even say anything she said “Ill see what I can do”.
She went In the back for 20 seconds and came back letting me know that she upgraded me from the ultra vista resort room to a “junior suite strip view “.
Probably the best view I’ve ever had in Vegas and I didn’t even have to ask. The $20 did most the talking.
Planet Hollywood 2 Bedroom Suites
I was checking in on a Saturday night for one night only, around 7pm. I always find the most success at night with a one night stay. The clerk was super nice as soon as I gave her “the sandwich”. Without me asking for an upgrade, she asked what I was looking for, strip view or more square footage. I said more square footage, but she actually set me up with both. I had a room on a high floor with a pretty massive bathroom, and a lot more space than a standard room. I was facing the strip. She asked me if I parked, but since I flew she instead comped my late check out because my flight was late at night. Super quick and friendly transaction!
We arrived around midnight so there was no queues. Two of us were checking in for 3 nights so we decided to tip $60 (20/night). We sandwiched the $60 fanned out slightly so they could see how many 20’s we tipped. She greeted us and I handed over the tip sandwich. She seemed surprised (but happy!) by the money. She started tapping on her computer and said she’d see what is available. (We didn’t even ask for an upgrade or anything, she just knew what we wanted already). She then said she’d be right back and left to go in the back for about 5mins. When she returned she said she had a complimentary upgrade for us which she said we’d like a lot. She put us on the 50th floor in a strip view suite. We’re here for 3 nights celebrating my gf’s 21st birthday. Honestly amazing – well worth trying the tip – don’t cheap out on the tip either! Regular price for the suite is $318/night and I booked the Hollywood Hip room for $53/night. Do it!
No wait when we arrived at 11 am. Handed the check in clerk $30 sandwiched between id and credit card. Before I could even got out 2 words asking about upgrade he started nodding and said I’ll take care of you. Waived the $35 early checkin fee (got us into our room right away) and put us on 25th floor with amazing view of the strip and fountains at Bellagio. Booked 5 night stay. Well worth the 30 bucks!!
Planet Hollywood Details
Planet Hollywood is a Las Vegas resort and casino that was founded in 1991 by Bryan Kestner, a former actor, producer and businessman. Kestner was the founder of the Hard Rock Café, which turned out to be highly successful. He believed his Planet Hollywood venture would be equally so. The company was pretty profitable initially, but things went downhill in the 20th century. Planet Hollywood had to change hands before things started to improve.
The casino has received support from numerous celebrities. It faced a history of financial problems due to poor management and was eventually sold to Caesars Entertainment in 2010. Under new management, it has become one of the most popular casinos in The Entertainment Capital of the World.
Well Known Celebrities Support Planet Hollywood Brand
Planet Hollywood is one of the best known casinos in the world. One of the reasons it is so famous is that a large number of celebrities have endorsed it over the years. A-list celebrities that support the casino include Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, Demi Demore and Sylvester Salone. The casino gave many of these actors free Esops in exchange for their patronage, which helped boost the brand.
However, the value of the publicity they provided declined as they got older and their performance in the box offices started to decline. According to the Economic Times, the casino’s revenues declined after they gold older, which contributed to the problems that led to the casino filing for bankruptcy twice.
After Caesar took over the ailing establishment, it has found new ways to leverage celebrities to boost its reputation. In a rather controversial move, Planet Hollywood recently hosted a showdown between GOP presidential hopefuls Donald Trump and Marco Rubio. Planet Hollywood has also recently provided accommodations to Pitbull, Janet Jackson and other leading celebrities, which is helping improve its brand.
Britney Spears has recently spent $100,000 to make a career comeback, which includes a two-year residency at Planet Hollywood. She will be making dozens of performances at the resort, which is expected to help create traction for both parties.
