The team at Aristocrat love an animal-themed pokie, and Buffalo is no different. With 1024 ways to win built into the Xtra Reel Power technology, you’ll fancy yourself as the king of the jungle after scooping some of the big prizes on offer here.

Free Buffalo slots by Aristocrat has a buffalo rampage across the reels. They, along with other animals, form the bulk of symbols. Free Buffalo slot machine game was introduced in 2006 by Aristocrat Limited, a famous online casino software developer. This pokie has 5 reels, 1024 paylines, a minimum and maximum of 0.01 – 40 coins per line.

While there is only one bonus round to explore – which is a bit of a disappointment for seasoned pokie players – the good news is that it offers up to 27x rewards! And with a scatter and a wild to uncover, this is pokie action of the highest order.

Wrapped up in Aristocrat’s trademark graphics and sounds, Buffalo might look a little tired and old-fashioned but there’s a good reason why it has endured both in land casinos and online: it’s just so darn good.

Where Buffalo Roam

As we’ve come to expect from Aristocrat pokies, the main game action might feel a little old school but there is plenty of payouts to keep you going; enhanced yet further by the inclusion of the fantastic 1,024 ways to win system.

As you are probably aware by now, the playing cards make up the most basic element of pretty much all Aristocrat games, and Buffalo is no different. The first four – Nine, Ten, Jack and Queen – pay out at the same rates; that’s 5 coins, 20 coins and 100 coins for spinning three, four or five respectively.

At the top of the food chain as far as the playing cards are concerned are the King and Ace, and this pair of big hitters rewards players with 10 coins for three, 50 coins for four and 100 coins for five.

Of the main game symbols the Stag and the Wolf are first up, and these furry fellows will deliver prizes of 20 coins, 80 coins and 120 coins for the ability to spin three or more on one of your multitude of paylines.

Next up, and catch them if you can, are the Cheetah and the Eagle. These two elusive characters pay rather hand some rewards if you can get your hands on three, four or five of them on adjacent reels, to the tune of 50 coins, 100 coins and 150 coins to be precise.

And finally, at the head of this particular animal kingdom is the big old Buffalo himself. If you are lucky enough to sight this beast on your reels you will earn 10 coins just for merely spinning a pair, and then 50 coins for three, 100 coins for four and 300 coins for five. As you can tell, this is a good symbol to have around.

The Specials

No Aristocrat pokie would be complete without those special wilds and scatter symbols. The former - which in Buffalo is a beautiful Sunset - appears on reels 2, 3 and 4 only, and will substitute for all symbols apart from the scatter to help players create additional winning combinations.

The scatter here is the Gold Coin, and this pays at 2x, 10x and 20x the total bet amount for spinning three, four or five on your reels respectively. But even better than that, it triggers the Buffalo Free Spins feature where plenty more gold coins are up for grabs.

Buffalo Soldier

The Free Spins feature in Buffalo is one of the most lucrative around as far as Aristocrat are concerned, and rewards players in the first instance with 8, 15 or 20 free spins when three, four or five of the scatter symbol are spun. This is a nice start.

Now picture the scene when a Sunset wild is spun during a free roll of the reels. Should this occur on reels 2, 3 or 4 then it will be a sight for sore eyes as any wins here will be subject to a 2x or 3x multiplier.

And the good news is that the Buffalo feature can even be re-triggered too, and you will be handed five additional freebies if two or more scatters are revealed on a free spin.

So that’s Buffalo then, the rewarding pokie game from Aristocrat. If you can get your claws into that Free Spins feature you can sit back and watch the prizes stack up for free.

  • 'First played it with my Girl Scouts when we came to visit in October, purchased it on my phone while still in your office, and it has a permanent spot on my coffee table!'

  • I highly recommend Buffalo to all I speak to. It’s fast, fun, highly replayable, and always a challenge. It’s great for small or large groups, can easily be adjusted for time, can seamlessly add or remove players from the game without upsetting game play, and has always taught me something new.

  • “Buffalo is a brilliantly compact game that broadens horizons, exercises wits, and gets players sharing their knowledge about all manner of wacky and unexpected things.”

  • “A great party game! Fast paced and makes you think on your feet. Funny combinations that can inspire some interesting answers and conversations!”

  • 'I am now completely convinced buffalo is the best card game ever.'

  • 'Simple but fun game that makes you think about things that may never have crossed your mind.'

  • 'I love this game. It can get intense at our Venture Scout meetings! Love how versatile it is!'

  • 'I have played this several times already and enjoyed it. It is a fast game best with 3-6 people and because of the way in which cards are drawn, it has pretty much limitless replayability.'

  • “I've played buffalo a couple of times, and it's a lot of fun even with people of different ages. It's really interesting to see which ones are easy (or difficult) to come up with! Buffalo's very easy to join in mid-game, which makes it great for parties or casual get-togethers.”

Can you name a flamboyant popstar, a blind scientist, or a skinny superhero? You’d better think fast, or your fellow players will leave you buffaloed!

A card game of quick wits and zany combinations, buffalo: the name dropping game asks you to name-drop faster than your friends, collect the most cards, and win! How fast can you name a vain artist? How about a glasses-wearing heartthrob? Don’t be surprised if you find yourself surrounded by curious players eager to name an annoying conqueror or perky religious figure!

buffalo is a 20 minute party game for adults and families (2–8 players ages 14 and up), and players are encouraged to join in the middle of a game!

Have someone flip over one card from each color deck face up onto the table. All players immediately race to think of, and shout out, the name of a real person or fictional character who matches the descriptors on the cards. The first player to name a match takes the matched cards. When the decks run out, the player with the most cards wins.

Whenever the group finds itself Buffaloed by the cards on the table and unable to make a match, someone adds another card from both decks to the table.

Kaufman, G., & Flanagan, M. (2015). “A psychologically “embedded” approach to designing games for prosocial causes.”Cyberpsychology: Journal of Psychosocial Research on Cyberspace,9(3), article 1. doi: 10.5817/CP2015-3-5

Prosocial games often utilize a direct, explicit approach to engage players with serious real-life scenarios and present information about key societal issues, but this approach may limit a game’s persuasive impact–particularly when the apparent aims of the game trigger players’ psychological defenses or reduce players’ potential engagement. In contrast, the “Embedded Design” approach that we introduce here offers effective, evidence-based strategies for delivering persuasive content. This paper provides an in-depth exploration of two key Embedded Design strategies: (1) intermixing: combining “on-topic” and “off-topic” game content in order to make the focal message or theme less obvious and more accessible and (2) obfuscating: using game genres or framing devices that direct players’ attention or expectations away from the game’s true aims. To illustrate the implementation and effectiveness of these strategies, we detail the design of two games that utilize a number of these techniques.

buffalo: the name dropping game was developed as part of a National Science Foundation-funded project called “Transforming Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) for Women and Girls: Reworking Stereotypes & Bias.” The funding enabled Tiltfactor, with additional assistance from the National Girls Collaborative Project, to research and create a number of games, with designs informed by psychological theory and research, aimed at reducing gender bias and broadening participation in STEM. Initial data suggests that buffalo: the name dropping game reduces prejudice and encourages greater inclusiveness in players’ representations of social identity groups.

No, the group is buffaloed. Add two more cards.

If the group is buffaloed, and I add two more cards, and one of them is a buffalo, do I add another two?
No, you only ever add more cards if matches cannot be made.
